A Hunt to the Savannah

As told by Bor

In the evening on the 44th Day of Autumn, in the year 536, the clan gathered for a hunt. Bor, Katan, Torin, Madcat, and Garibaldi gathered in the Tanner's hut to contemplate their hunting grounds. They decided on the Savanna as their choice of hunting ground and promptly began their trip in that direction. Katan proved the eventual usefulness of his pathfinding by showing a shortcut through east farms. Alas, his skills aren't really up to the Marsh yet, so they had to run in circles until they tripped themselves into the Savanna. (There was some amusement watching the poor souls who would stumble onto the savanna beach, only to trip in their surprise and fall back into the marsh.) During this time the group was joined by two more exiles, Magnels a solid brick and excellent distance healer, and Lundar a Journeyman Mystic.

Eventually all were gathered on the beach and the hunt was begun. Bor, the supposed Master of the Hunt, apparently didn't want to accept those duties and so placed Katan in charge of moving everyone around and keeping them together. To Katan's credit, he did a fine job of this, and many snells were systematically cleared of Maha with some excellent furs gathered by the clan's skilled skinners.

During this time Ainvar had arrived, but just as they were heading back to the beach to pick her up the Savanna was swarmed by Maha and a long and difficult fight ensued as the group fought their way back to Ainvar's rat eaten corpse. Luckily, she was not too fallen for the skills of the groups three healers and so the hunt continued. At this time, Magnels needed to head back to town, but shortly after Arod arrived.

And so, Katan led the group through more snells. Maha were killed, the mystics celebrated the occasional Maha they managed to hit, and just as the hunting party was contemplating heading for town a massive swarm of Maha jumped from the tall grasses and attacked the group.

There was much confusion and a general retreat was called for. Many fell very quickly to the surprising ferocity of the attack. Torin and Ainvar managed to retreat back to the beach and waited and healed their wounds as best they could. Bor, Garibaldi, and Katan all just barely managed to retreat to the mines. It took a while, because Bor himself was just barely standing, but eventually Garibaldi and Katan were reasonably healthy again and they cleared the Maha near the mine entrance one by one until it was safe to heal Arod. Bor informed Torin and Ainvar that the mine entrance was clear and it was a good time for them to make a run for it to get back to the group. Once regrouped, the whole party systematically cleared the rest of the Maha and got the rest of the fallen back on their feet.

In celebration, Katan took the party on a tour of the mines. Undine were killed, traps were sprung, but the whole clan stayed together and successfully freed themselves from the trap that the miners still have not managed to extricate themselves. Ainvar found ore, but alas that was all the treasure that could actually be retrieved from the place.

After fighting their way out of the mines, through the temple, through the Maha den, and back the Savanna beach, it was decided that it would be best to return to town and call it a successful hunt. Of course, no hunt can end quite that easily for the Marsh and the forest separated everyone and two folks fell on the way back to town. They were hunted for and gathered up and finally everyone returned to town happy and in good spirits from a fun, exciting, and profitable hunt.
